Maintain Your Floors the Proper Way

We at Simon’s Flooring and Design know your new floors will serve you for many years if you follow a few simple tips. We’ve compiled a list of suggestions as to what you can do to add years to your new floor without hassle. You will realize how easy it is to keep your floor lasting for many years just by adhering to simple advice.

Hardwood Floors

• Floor Protectors will reduce indentations and scratches from heavy furniture. Never slide or roll heavy objects across the floor.
• Place walk-off mats by entrances to trap dirt and sand.
• Avoid sharp objects, such as high heels and dog nails.
• Maintain a relative humidity level between 34% and 55%. Humidity extremes will cause expansion and contraction that can warp and damage the floor. Use a dehumidifier or air conditioner to pull any extra moisture out of the air. During the heating seasons, use a humidifier to prevent excess shrinkage.
• Wipe up any form of liquids immediately.
• Sweep, dust, and vacuum the floors regularly. Never use the beater bar.
• Occasionally damp mop the floor according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Laminate Floors

• Floor Protectors will reduce indentations and scratches from heavy furniture. Never slide or roll heavy objects across the floor.
• Place walk-off mats by entrances to trap dirt and sand.
• Wipe up any form of liquids immediately.
• Sweep, dust, and vacuum the floors regularly. Never use the beater bar.
• Occasionally damp mop the floor according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

LVP/LVT & Resilient Vinyl

• Floor Protectors will reduce indentations and scratches from heavy furniture. Never slide or roll heavy objects across the floor.
• Place walk-off mats by entrances to trap dirt and sand.
• Avoid sharp objects, such as high heels and dog nails.
• Sweep, dust, and vacuum the floors regularly. Never use the beater bar.
• Occasionally wet/damp mop the floor according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Prepare for the Installation of Your New Flooring

Before our crew arrives, we recommend that you go through this list of tips to ensure that everything will work out smoothly.

1. Plan to Have the Existing Flooring Removed
   Please either let us know if our team will have to do it or if you will have it done by the time our crew is scheduled to arrive.
2. Plan to Have the Furniture Removed from the Room
   Always be sure to remove all fragile items from your room. If we have to remove any furniture, please let us know in advance.
3. Measure All Door Clearances Before You Have Your New Flooring Installed
   If the new flooring happens to be thicker than the old flooring, your doors may end up rubbing or jamming. Plan in advance to have someone saw the material or shave off the bottom of each door if necessary.
